Reason and Passion

Sometimes it seems passion and reason are presented as in conflict, a choice people make – are you a rational person or a passionate person? A ranking even, with rational valued more than passionate in our hi tech world. It’s the other way around – passion always rules. The visceral, physical response we get from our emotions always drives human decisions. Rationality isn’t in place of emotion, it’s the ability to imagine and compare emotional outcomes of different actions. It’s imagining how you will feel tomorrow if you take that action today. Reason always serves passion. It’s how we decide between the passions of the moment or the passions of the life we want to lead.
